On Sept. 16, 2024, at approximately 8:17 p.m., the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of West River Road and Tioga Downs in the Town of Nichols for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash.
According to the sheriff’s office, the crash involved a car and motorcycle, and the two occupants of the motorcycle were thrown. They were then transported to Robert Packer Hospital.
The motorcycle operator, identified as Calvin H. Pierce, age 63 of Barton, N.Y., succumbed to his injuries. The passenger of the motorcycle, Carla R. Pierce, age 45 of Ulster, Pa., remains in critical condition.
Deputies on scene detained an individual operating the car involved in the crash, and the Tioga County Crash Investigation Unit responded to assist at the scene.
Charges are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
