Free eight-week digital marketing course open to Tioga County businesses

Team Tioga recently announced an eight-week digital marketing course is being offered to registered Tioga County, N.Y. businesses and nonprofit organizations. This course will connect managers and key staff with a digital marketing expert who will evaluate their needs and create a customized educational program. Participants will learn the skills they need to enhance and maintain their online presence and reach their goals, whether it’s getting new customers, increasing sales, or improving engagement and visibility.

“Team Tioga was able to secure funding to connect businesses directly with a professional marketing expert for one-on-one training at no cost to participants. Every business is different and has different needs, so we looked for a consultant who had experience in hands-on mentoring for small businesses and organizations. We were directed to WorkBDigital by the Small Business Development Center,” said Rebecca Maffei, director of the Tioga County Local Development Corporation, who administers the program.

Participants will work directly with Lisa Churakos, the CEO of WorkBDigital, an Upstate New York company that specializes in digital marketing. She has worked with numerous small businesses, as well as the U.S. Small Business Development Center at Binghamton University.

In this course, participants will explore what specific changes or additions to their current digital marketing efforts will benefit their bottom line. Lisa will then work one-on-one with each participant, keeping them on track, and teaching them the skills they need to build and sustain their digital marketing. Participants will also be able to access additional support for up to three months.

“This is an educational course and participants will need to be able to commit to a weekly, one-hour virtual meeting with Lisa and five to ten hours per week of “homework” for eight weeks. Lisa understands the time resource challenges of running a business, so she works with each business to develop a realistic schedule and workload,” said Maffei.

In the first, second and third quarter of 2024 there will be one eight-week block available for four to six businesses, so space is limited. You can learn more and apply online at experiencetioga.com/digital-marketing-course-2/. Applications will be taken until all slots are full, however the deadline for the first quarter is Jan. 12, 2024. Applications should take roughly 15 minutes to complete.

“We have so many unique businesses in Tioga County, but independent business owners are limited on time, especially when it comes to marketing. We hope that by connecting them with an expert for hands-on learning for a short and customized course, they will be able to hone in on how to maximize their time and resources to make the most of their online promotional efforts,” said Maffei.
