Due to the overwhelming success of its “Purple People Eater Takeover” of Glen Park Vineyards last year, Owego Hose Teams, Inc. is bringing the event back on Friday, Nov. 10. Located on Allen Glen Road in Owego, Glen Park Vineyards is the perfect venue for the celebration of all things Hose Team purple.

Celebrity guest bartenders will be serving New York based wines and beers from 4-9 p.m. with musical guests, the Latimer Lee Band. The event is open to the public with proceeds benefiting the Hose Team Amoskeag Steam Fire Engine project.

The Purple People Takeover features several well-known Owego faces. Guest bartenders include Abbey Ortu, formally of Tioga County Economic Development with Brandon Smith, of Scott Smith and Son; Julia Dodge of VFW Post #1371; Eric Nichols, past bartender at Metro’s, Whistle Stop, Dugout and White Tails; Bob Powell, with Bob Powell Entertainment; and Shelly Worthing, with daughter Meredith Sagor. The Latimer Lee Band will provide classic rock hits.

In the 1950s Owego Hose Teams paraded around in a vehicle named the “Purple People Eater,” a retired hearse. The Hose Team replaced the “Purple People Eater” in the 1970s with another retired hearse called the “Goofy Grape.”

Today the Hose Team has a Motor Hose Truck affectionately called the Purple People Eater, in tribute to the 1950s vehicle.

Purple and Gold are the official colors of your championship Hose Team and patrons of the Takeover are encouraged to wear the Hose Team colors.
