School District responds to budget concerns; offers clarification

On Monday, a spokesperson for the Owego Apalachin School District, Luke McEvoy, emailed to The Owego Pennysaver, asking for a correction to a recent story published, “School vote set for Tuesday.”

In the article, it stated, “This year’s budget for the Owego Apalachin School District carries a 3.83 percent tax levy increase as proposed, and exceeds New York’s tax cap.” You can view the original story at www.owegopennysaver.com/PS/2019/05/18/school-vote-set-for-tuesday/.

In the email, McEvoy stated, “In the story you state that the proposed levy ‘exceeds New York’s tax cap,’ this is inaccurate.”

McEvoy referred The Owego Pennysaver to a document that he states will offer clarification, and clear up confusion caused by the “anonymous readers column.” That document is attached.

For more information on the budget vote, taking place tomorrow, May 21, McEvoy encourages readers to visit www.oacsd.org/BoardofEducation.aspx.

Polling locations are the Apalachin Elementary School and Owego Free Academy (voting location is based on residency).
