Congressman Tom Reed (R-23) visited Owego’s Lockheed Martin facility on March 19. Reed toured various manufacturing areas for an update on the latest projects at the site, which included the helicopter programs, and also took time to listen to employee input and concerns.
Accompanying Reed on the tour were General Manager and Vice President of Advanced Product Solutions, Hamid Salim, Director of Government Relations Tony Rosemarino, Legislative Affairs Vice President Krissi Fauser, and Vice President of Sikorsky Future Vertical Lift and Maritime and Mission Systems Dan Spoor, along with other support staff.
Reed, who last visited the Owego site about three years ago, remarked that manufacturers such as Lockheed Martin are vital to our communities and essential to the safety of all Americans.
Reed commented, “Cutting edge technology is right here in our backyard,” adding, “They (Lockheed) are doing some amazing work for our defense capabilities with the next generation of helicopters.”
Reed said he appreciated the honest input about the ways he and his team can continue to advocate for new technologies and also help develop the workforce.
“I love coming out here to remind myself that we are part of the effort to see Lockheed Martin and what they do best,” Reed concluded, adding, “The U.S. has the greatest competitive edge across the world, we have the greatest innovative thinkers and educational components, and it is inspiring.”
Hamid Salim, general manager and vice president of Advanced Product Solutions commented, “It is inspiring to me to have Tom Reed here. Giving him the opportunity to come in to see the sites and connect with employees is critical for our business. We appreciate Congressman Reed’s support for local manufacturing jobs and business opportunities for the Lockheed Martin Owego site.”
Salim, who grew up in South Carolina, was a previous Program Director at Sikorsky. In his new role at Lockheed Martin, Salim shared about the Owego area, “I’ve been here 59 days and am so inspired by the folks in this community. It’s a pleasant surprise and a friendly area.”
Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 105,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Owego facility employs approximately 2,500.
According to Communications and Public Affairs Manager Thomas Kogut, the Owego site is currently seeking candidates for various engineering positions, with the greatest need being systems engineers and electrical engineers. In total, Kogut shared, there are more than 100 job openings.
