Opinion: Are the candidates informed on education?

Dear Editor,

Candidates are requesting an opportunity to represent the electorate. Are they informed, to what degree, and in what way? Education is the issue. Does our elected position have a responsibility to Education? What? Are you familiar with the concept of Common Core, Every Student Succeeds, Dignity For All Students, the Mental Health Curriculum and the 16,310-page math curriculum?

Specifically; the requirement for NYSED authorization to address certain issues? Allowing students to know which test questions count and which ones don’t. Does the percent participation effect Federal fiscal support? Why are parts of the recent amendment (July 23, 2018) left open ended with the term or? Does every district have the ability to facilitate and implement a new curriculum? How does a 16, 310 page curriculum provide pragmatic benefits?

Become informed. Engage NY, ESSA, Dignity For All Students, sites may provide a starting point. All inquiries should be courteous, informed and respectful.

PSYCHOMETRICS: 1. A branch of clinical or applied psychology dealing with the use and application of mental measurement. 2. The techniques of mental measurement – the use of quantitative devices for assessing psychological trends.

Have you received the psychometric profiles (ELA and Math) of the students for whom you share responsibilities? What do they mean? Utilization? You need to know. Parents. Guardians. Candidates.

Sincerely,

Joe Albrecht
