The 55th Annual Tioga County Dairy Princess Coronation and dinner was held at the Newark Valley Fire Hall on May 26. Master of Ceremonies was David Wheelock.

The evening started with a traditional Milk Punch and snacks as everyone arrived, followed by the introduction of the 2018-2019 Tioga County Dairy Ambassadors.

The newly appointed Ambassadors are Addison Aman, daughter of Aaron and Becky Aman of Candor; Megan Henry, daughter of Brian and Lillian Henry of Candor; and Rosie Hines, daughter of Wesley and Sarah Hines of Newark Valley.

The Candidates for the 2018-2019 Dairy Princess were then introduced – Arianna Aman, daughter of Aaron and Becky Aman of Candor; Chelsie Fuller, daughter of Tim and Debbie Lawton of Newark Valley; and Emily Henry, daughter of Brian and Lillian of Candor; followed by the current and outgoing 2017-2018 Tioga County Dairy Princess, Leah Ludwig.

After a lengthy interview with guest judges Tess Campbell, Sarah Jones and Judy Whittaker, the candidates continued to be vetted throughout the evening, as well as during their individual speeches.

While the judges were deliberating, Hailey Pipher, the New York State Dairy Princess, and 2017-2018 Tioga County Dairy Princess Leah Ludwig, gave presentations. Next it was time to announce the new Dairy Princess – Chelsie Fuller.

Chelsie is currently a sophomore at Newark Valley High School. Her family operates a 250-acre dairy farm with 80 Jerseys. The family is a member of the American Jersey Cattle Club. Chelsie has been a Dairy Ambassador for four years. Her goal is to become an animal Geneticist.

The following message from the Tioga Country Dairy Promotion Board gives a great explanation of the responsibilities these ladies will face in the coming year – you can look forward to seeing these dedicated Tioga County Dairy representatives at the many events throughout Tioga County.

The message reads, “As Tioga County Dairy Promotion begins its 56th year of promotion, the focus continues to be on promoting the dairy industry and developing the lives of the many young ladies as they communicate messages about the health and nutritional value of dairy products to audiences of all ages. Our young ladies have the opportunity each year to promote dairy products to school age children and to participate in parades, Sundaes on the Farm, attend farm meetings, make radio announcements, write newspaper articles, attend local and state fairs and participate in state Dairy Princess Coronations. As a result of the continued commitment of the young ladies, their parents, individual and business supporters, our promotion program continues to be a success. The Promotion Committee appreciates everyone’s dedication to the continuing efforts of the program.”

Congratulations to all who participated, and to those who helped make this year’s event another successful one.
