Eight Owego middle and high school students attended the May 19 Points of Light Student Leadership Workshop conducted by the Charles H. Bassett (CHB) Youth Foundation at the Owego Elks Lodge.

These 8th to 12th grade students engaged in three hours of creative leadership activities emphasizing self-development, team communication, quality decision making, and community building to improve their effectiveness in school, at home and in the community.

Facilitated by Robert Bassett, national leadership trainer and president of the CHB Youth Foundation based in Owego, and with the assistance of local educator Kent Maslin in partnership with the Owego Elks, students Gabe O’Donnell, Audra McFarland, Nicholas Maslin, Emma Pawlak, Katie Shoen, Lilly Bouton, Luke Maslin, and Ethan McFarland completed a series of experiential leadership activities designed to help them reach their goals and improve the community.

Students received a t-shirt, leadership certificate, leadership materials and a fun, friendship building morning. Special thanks go out to the school counselors for promoting the training to students, and to the Elks for hosting this community service workshop.

Additional student workshops will be held in the future. For more information on these opportunities, Follow the Friends of CHB Youth Foundation on Facebook or visit CHBYF.org.
