Tioga County youth programs receive Bassett Foundation grantsEvery spring, the Charles H. Bassett (CHB) Youth Foundation, Inc. offers youth volunteer grants to Tioga County programs that directly engage children and youth in volunteer community service activities and projects that build character, citizenship and community.

On Friday, May 18 at the Bassett Ah-Wa-Ga Center in Owego, four organizations received $500 grants to promote youth volunteers in Richford, Newark Valley and Owego.

Recipients included Catholic Social Services’ YES Program, Camp AHWAGA, Boy Scout Troop 41 on behalf of the Historic Owego Marketplace, and the Richford Summer Youth Program.

Boy Scout Troop 41 has performed set up and clean up of the Strawberry Festival each year for the Historic Owego Marketplace, the host of the annual event. The organizers of the event appreciate their efforts, and the CHB grant will directly compensate, in part, the scout troop for their efforts.

Now in its 24 year, the CHB Youth Foundation promotes positive youth development through volunteer grants, student scholarships, workshops, history, and heritage education activities and recognition in honor of Owego native Charles H. Bassett and his Bassett Family ancestors.
