Jane Fischer, director of the museum’s school tour program at the Bement-Billings Farmstead, says that quilts can tell a story. She has borrowed a variety of quilts from friends and states that quilt turning is a creative way to display and discuss a group of quilts.

Come to the Bement-Billings Farmstead’s Herrick Barn in Newark Valley on June 9 to view quilts, and to hear their stories from 1 to 3 p.m. Guests are invited to bring a quilt and to share its story as well.

Guests will enjoy both the quilt program in the barn and a tea with light refreshments served in the parlor by costumed guides. To complement the tea, two museum guides will model a few historic fashions that depict a literary character.

Lil Baron stated that she likes supporting a tea event because it is a good way for friends to have a relaxing time together. Lil is a member of the Cooking Guild with a life-long interest in history and baking. She enjoys the planning, preparation and decorations that are needed for such an event.

Sharing some time over tea was something done frequently in the past to keep friends connected. Lil also points out that this gives guests the unique experience of having tea in a museum setting.

Call 642-9516 by June 2 to reserve a seat. Send $10, or $8 for Newark Valley Historical Society members, by June 2 to NV Historical Society, P.O. Box 222, Newark Valley, N.Y. 13811.
