Candor Daffodil Festival welcomes spring! The first annual Candor Daffodil Festival will be held on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Candor Ball Park located at the intersection of McCarty Street and Spencer Avenue, and where the annual Candor Fourth of July festivities are held each year. The event will be held rain or shine.

Sponsored by the Candor Chamber of Commerce, a festival committee is planning the Daffodil Festival, and where a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Candor Resource Center food pantry.

Inspired by the annual Zamoiski family “Daffodil Daze” event, held annually at 292 Candor Hill Rd. on two spring weekends, the Candor Daffodil Festival will add multiple activities to the agenda.

Joy Zamoiski had planted daffodils on her property decades ago, and through the years, she, along with her husband and children, continued to add new bulbs. Joy passed away in 2014, yet the ambitious task of planting bulbs still takes place around the hilly property, and where today tens of thousands of bulbs bloom each spring, some spelling out words such as “Joy” and “Peace.”

When interviewed in 2016 for a story in this publication, Nancy Zamoiski, one of Joy’s ten children, estimated that there were about 42,000 bulbs on the property, and 150 different varieties.

This year it is expected that more than 50,000 daffodils will be in bloom. Daffodil Daze will be held on the Zamoiski family property on two weekends, to include April 27 through 29, and again May 4 through May 6. The latter weekend coincides with the Candor Daffodil Festival.

The May 5 festival will feature a multitude of vendors, including home party sellers, and will showcase vintage items and antiques, hand-crafted items and home-made goods.

Four bands at the fest will perform live music, and also entertaining the crowd will be a juggler and balloon artist. Several activities for children and families will be on hand to include a bounce house, seed planting and a scavenger hunt.

A barbeque is also on the fest must-do list, along with a food truck and other refreshments. To top it off, cheese tastings, Fingerlakes wine tastings and craft beer tastings will be available.
