The Avangrid Foundation, the charitable arm of AVANGRID, Inc., the parent company of local subsidiary NYSEG, is providing support to Mercy House of the Southern Tier. The $20,000 gift assists with upgrades to the facility including roof repairs, new energy efficient appliances, and microbicidal anti-bacterial paint.

The specialized paint, which is the first of its kind to kill 99 percent of bacteria, will help protect residents and employees from infections like Staph (Staphylococcus aureus) and E.coli (Escherichia coli).

Mercy House of the Southern Tier is a community care shelter that provides a supportive and loving environment for people with terminal illnesses who can no longer remain at home. Residents spend their final days surrounded by their loved ones, and the love of Mercy House staff and volunteers.

“We are grateful for the grant award from the Avangrid Foundation. It has allowed us to complete necessary upgrades to better carry out our mission of caring for the terminally ill,” said Linda Cerra, executive director of Mercy House of the Southern Tier.

“NYSEG and the Avangrid Foundation are committed partners in strengthening our communities and providing support to the most critically in need,” said Nicole Licata Grant, director, Avangrid Foundation.
