Learn about animal tracking at upcoming presentation

On Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Hubbard Auditorium of the Tioga County Building located at 56 Main St. in Owego, naturalist and tracker Linda Spielman will offer basic information about animal tracking.

Her presentation introduces the basics of animal tracking, including how to find animal tracks and other signs, what features to look for, and how tracks can tell us who our animal neighbors are. She also shows how tracks can tell stories about what animals do and how they relate to each other and to their surroundings.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, Spielman leads an outing to search for tracks and signs, using them to interpret animal presence and behavior. The outing will meet in Draper Park at 1 p.m.

Spielman is the author of the recently published A Field Guide to Tracking Mammals in the Northeast, which will be for sale at the event.

These events are sponsored by the Sierra Club Tioga County Task Force and Residents Allied for the Future of Tioga (RAFT). For additional information, call or text Erin Riddle at (607) 372-5503 or email to riddleriddle@gmail.com.
