Apalachin man arrested for burglary

Apalachin man arrested for burglaryMichael J. Kelly Jr., age 44, of Apalachin, N.Y.

On Aug. 13, 2017, at about 7:40 a.m., New York State Police at Owego arrested Michael J. Kelly Jr., age 44, of Apalachin, N.Y. for the felony of Burglary 3rd degree.

This arrest occurred after troopers responded to a Tioga County 911 report of a man breaking things, and threatening the owner at Sweeney’s Market on State Route 434 in the town of Owego.

An investigation determined that the owner of the store heard Kelly yelling and banging on the windows of his store. When he unlocked the door and attempted to go outside, Kelly forced his way by him and entered the store. This caused the door lock to break.

According to police, once inside, Kelly continued to yell and threaten the owner as he smashed some beer bottles on the floor. Eventually he followed the owner outside and waited for the police to arrive.

Kelly was arrested without any further problems, and was arraigned in town of Nichols court. He was remanded to Tioga County Jail without bail.

His next court date is pending.
