Ice Cream Works! announces new growth into handmade ice cream with unique flavors

Ice Cream Works! is pleased to announce that it started making hard ice cream this season. Using a premium ice cream base, Ice Cream Works! is making their own unique flavors available at their store location.

Ice Cream Works! is utilizing seasonally available ingredients and locally sourced products as a base to their ice cream flavors. Seasonal flavors using local ingredients include Pink Squirrel (strawberry amaretto), Blueberry Crumble, Earl Grey with Lavender and Sweet Corn with Cracked Pepper.

Other flavors are new takes on classic desserts such as Grandma’s Peanut Butter Cookies, Ginger Snap, Upside Down Pineapple Cake, German Chocolate Cake, or drinks such as Pina Colada or Pink Squirrel.

The most popular is a nod to one of Upstate New York’s woes – The NY Pothole. “When researching recipes, we noticed a theme of Rocky Road, Dusty Road, Louisiana Mud Pie and wondered what a similar flavor would be for New York and the flavor was born,” said co-owner Diane Franz.

NY Potholes is chocolate ice cream with a jolt of coffee brandy, chocolate chips, chocolate “dirt” cookie crunch and a white chocolate stripe.

“So far, the response has been phenomenal. We planned to only offer four or five rotating flavors this year but we are currently up to 13 and have retired about five for the season,” explained co-owner Mike Franz.

Ice Cream Works! is currently launching three Christmas in July flavors; Peppermint Chip, Nutcracker and Christmas Cookie. Throughout the remainder of the ice cream season, they will continue to come out with more unique flavors such as lemon pound cake, cantaloupe and fall inspired flavors.

Ice Cream Works! is a family run, community minded ice cream store in Owego, N.Y. They opened in 2013 and expanded with an ice cream truck in 2016. The store offers over 30 flavors of hard ice cream, Dole Whip, soft serve with all the traditional options of shakes, floats, sundaes and many creative sundaes unique to their store such as a honey sundae made from co-owner Diane’s own bees.
