Champion Speedway returns on June 24

Champion Speedway returns on June 24

After a successful season opener on May 28, Champion Speedway in Owego gets set to host the second event of the year on Saturday, June 24 at 7 p.m.

The event is a tribute to former track worker and former Vestal police officer, Omar Lightner, who was a good friend to many of the riders in the early days of the facility and always attracts a good field of riders hoping to win the Omar Lightner Cup trophy.

Encouraged by the turnout for week one in May, track promoter, Jason Bonsignore, has added two events for later in the summer, an extra one in July and August. That will give racers two events in July and two in August now to help prepare for the U.S. Open National Championships the track will again host on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2 and 3.

More information can be found at www.eastcoastspeedway.com or www.speedwaybikes.com. Champion Speedway is located at the end of Route 434 on East River Road / Old Narrows Road. Gates open at 5 p.m. and races blast off at 7 p.m.
