One of our area’s most popular bands, Wreckless Marci, will perform during the Friday Night Strawberry Festival Block Party on June 16. Taking the Front Street main stage, near the Court Street Bridge at 8 p.m., Wreckless Marci will electrify downtown Owego with their charged-up tunes until 10 p.m., and then plan to trigger the fireworks show with a self-described “wreckless bang!”

Their second appearance at the Strawberry Festival, the Binghamton-based band is comprised of lead guitarist Craig Palmer, drummer Matt Jensen, bass player Mark Sedlock and lead vocalist and guitarist, Sonny Weeks.

Wreckless Marci was formed by Palmer and Jensen more than 15 years ago, and the current wreckless-foursome celebrates five years together in 2017. It’s said that a distinct groove was found when Sedlock joined the group, and then when vocalist Sonny Weeks came on board as the front man, word is that all of the pieces fell into place.

“Each member of the band is different, and the formula works out,” commented Sonny, adding, “I’m a bit of a punk rocker, Mark is old-school metal, Craig likes the rock and hip-hop, and Matt, he’s the hippie.”

Weeks further explained that consistent gigs every weekend has helped culminate all of their talents to a point where they are playing the best that they have ever played, and shared, “Most weeks we’re playing, and that has done us well in our tightness and delivery,” adding, “We’re really coming into ourselves.”

A staple on the local music scene, Wreckless Marci is one of the most sought-after bands. Playing to packed venues and special events; the band has branched out further into the region, such as Ithaca. Finding time to write new material has been challenging, although balancing family time and other work is a priority, too.

What Weeks calls an extended family, Marci’s wreckless fans follow them from show to show and encompasses all ages. Performing a mix of songs that delivers rock to rap and everything in between, Marci’s talent and song choices keep the audience on their feet and dancing.

Weeks explained, “We can go from Green Day to Garth Brooks, and then play Megadeth to Miley Cyrus, and on to Smash Mouth and a little Miranda Lambert.”  Throw in the Talking Heads, among others, and the range of genres ends up being a one-of-a-kind mix.

Crafting the set lists is an art for Weeks, who pores over details in an effort to showcase the band’s signature eclectic edge.

Weeks admitted, “I’m a perfectionist when it comes to writing up the set lists.”

When asked what fest-goers can expect at the Friday Night Block Party, Weeks’ responded that it will be fun-filled and action-packed, and invites guests to, “Come out, enjoy it,” and continued, “The Strawberry Festival is one of the biggest crowds we’ve ever played for, and it’s all really about the crowd and our fans. We pride ourselves in a good show.”
