Tioga Women Lead announces ‘New Year, New You’ event

Tioga Women Lead (TWL) will hold its second educational and networking leadership event for Tioga County women on Jan. 25 at The Owego Treadway Inn.

The first event, held in October of 2016, brought together over 60 women from all over Tioga County and from diverse backgrounds. Students, business owners, community leaders, mothers, teachers, managers, artists and more packed the room at Pheasant Hill Country Club.

The program was created and presented by Penny Bartlow, a local business owner and creator of Global Leadership Now, a leadership-training program for young women. It focused on “Leading with Integrity” and explored the importance of integrity in life and leadership.

Local OFA senior, Lindsay Field, was honored with the “You Rock Award” for setting a world record for the deadlift in her age and weight category. The “Your Rock Award” recognizes the successes and achievements of Tioga women.

Field was recognized by LeeAnn Tinney, director of Tioga County Economic Development and Planning, and presented with a painted rock.

TWL has adopted rocks from local waterways as a symbol of achievement because rocks are unique and shaped by their journey, just like each woman’s achievement is shaped by her own distinct journey. To see the “You Rock” award and other images from the October event, go to the Tioga Women Lead Facebook page.

The program for the January event will expand on the theme of integrity and will be presented by Tia Lee Daniel, a local businesswoman whose extensive professional experience includes private investigator, pharmaceutical scientist, and her current position as co-owner of a business that employs 65 people.

The program, “New Year, New You! Creating Your Daily Betty,” expands on the theme of integrity and provides tools to help accomplish daily goals.

Along with education, Tioga Women Lead events also inspire women of Tioga County to be empowered through fellowship. TWL welcomes women from all backgrounds, professions and age groups to attend “New Year, New You! Creating Your Daily Betty.”

TWL is a group of professional, local, women leaders who are committed to advancing women’s leadership in Tioga County through empowerment, education and experience. TWL recognizes that women already play a vital leadership role in government, corporations, independent businesses, community organizations, schools and families in Tioga County, and sees the potential to encourage more women, including our youth, to become local leaders.

Visit the Tioga Women Lead Facebook page for more information about the group, events, pictures, book recommendations and discussions.

“Two-thousand-seventeen is a significant year for women leaders in Tioga County and throughout the state because we are celebrating the one-hundredth anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in New York State. Two-thousand-seventeen will also mark the first full year of Tioga Women Lead, so it’s a fitting time to focus on women’s leadership,” said Rebecca Maffei, director of Tioga County Tourism and TWL council member.

The event will be held at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 25, with registration opening at 11:30 a.m. A light lunch will be served. Registration is required by Jan. 18.

The cost is $15, cash or check, and can be paid for at the door or in advance when you register for the event. To register, visit the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce at 80 North Ave. in Owego, call (607) 687-2020 or email to business@tiogachamber.com
