TCHS to host ‘Quilts By The River’

Tioga County is home to many artistically talented quilters, and the upcoming “Quilts by the River” Quilt Show is an ideal place to see many of these quilts in person. This exhibition will be held from Jan. 14 to March 4 at the Tioga County Historical Society (TCHS).

The cost to attend the exhibit is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors, and children and members are free.

The exhibit rooms will be filled with many excellent quality quilts that were made locally, including a display of antique quilts from the museum’s own collection. Visitors will enjoy a special silent auction for a chance to win a variety of specially made quilts.

The gift shop will also be open during the exhibit. TCHS is featuring a sale on hundreds of quilting books and scrap bags perfect for quilters of all skill and age.

A variety of lectures, demonstrations, and classes will be available throughout the show. Demonstrations will take place on the following dates: Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. The Tioga County Historical Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (607) 687-2460, email museum@tiogahistory.org or visit www.tiogahistory.org.

  1. What a wonderful idea to have an annual quilt show at TCHS, the perfect place to highlight the talents of many quilting residents of Tioga County & surrounding areas. Sadly, several prominent quilt groups hesitate to participate because of the $5 charge per quilt per each quilt. It is a privilege to the museum to borrow the quilts, especially with all the effort & expense involved. I sincerely hope the Board will consider dropping the charge in the coming years.
