Benefit for ‘Super Cooper’ planned for January 15

A benefit is planned for Sunday, Jan. 15, to support local 3-year-old “Super Cooper” while he battles Leukemia. The event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Post 89, located at 118 S. Jensen Rd. in Vestal, N.Y.

At the benefit, the community will be celebrating this local family as they embark on their journey to help 3-year-old Cooper Busch kick cancer to the curb.

Cooper Busch, affectionately known as “Super Cooper”, was born with a genetic disorder called Down Syndrome and is growing to be a spunky, fearless and loving boy.

Sadly, on Nov. 7, 2016, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, megakaryocytic type. Cooper was admitted to the children’s hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. and his mother had to take a leave of absence from her teaching job at Binghamton City School District while she is caring for Cooper.

Cooper’s father is continuing a daily routine for Cooper’s 6-year-old brother Cole in Chenango Bridge, N.Y. Both parents are life long residents of Broome County.

Marissa Lamphere, a family friend, is coordinating the event and has had an overwhelming response from local restaurants, businesses and the community to help assist the local family (Tara, Steve, Cole, Cooper and baby girl Busch – on the way) with the journey that lies ahead while Cooper is in a fight for his life.

The benefit will provide attendees with food, door prizes, raffle baskets and fellowship; all funds raised will be given directly to the Busch family as the community surrounds them with love.
