Policing Candor the topic of historical talk

The Candor Historical Society is hosting the former Chief of Police for Candor, Damir Lazaric, as the guest speaker for their Sept. 28 meeting to be held at the Candor Town Hall from 7 to 9 p.m.

Lazaric served the Candor Village community for 26 years, retiring at the end of 2015. His talk, entitled “Policing Candor”, will highlight some of the more interesting aspects of his time interacting with the school and the community’s residents.

Damir came from Istria, Croatia when he was a young boy, moving from Queens to Tioga County where he later served as Police Chief for both the Village of Candor and Spencer. But his professional career after college started with public service with the Owego Fire Department and emergency squad, and later, while working at the Owego Pennysaver as sales manager. He was hired as a jailer for Tioga County, graduated from the Police Academy, and was promoted to road patrol as a Tioga County Sheriff’s Deputy.

After “Policing Candor” for all those years, Damir’s talk is sure to be informative as well as entertaining. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
