School bus rolls over in Oneonta; no injuries reported

An Owego-Apalachin School District bus rolled over last Saturday while transporting OFA’s volleyball team to a tournament near Albany. According to reports, the accident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. last Saturday, Sept. 10, near Oneonta.

Reports noted that there were ten athletes, two coaches, and a bus driver on board. All 13 were taken to A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries, and were released later in the day.

The bus driver, at the time of the incident, was cited for moving from a lane unsafely.

State Police investigators stated on Tuesday that the school bus, which flipped on its side, showed no signs of mechanical failure. Reports state that authorities are still unsure what exactly caused the accident, but say that witnesses have said that the bus just suddenly pulled to the right.

The team also received treatment for minor injuries from the district’s athletic trainer and the district has made counselors available for them.
