A charming, century-old home, painted in classic white with purple trim, sits on the corner of Humiston Street and Delray Avenue in Candor, N.Y., just off Route 96 via Church Street.  Home to Two Hoots Café’ located at 40 Delray Ave., breakfast and lunch is served from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays.  A full service florist and gift shop for two years, Two Hoots Flowers and Gifts is also part of the property, owned and operated by Cherie Kidney, with help from her husband, Patrick.

Cherie, her husband Patrick and two daughters relocated to Candor from Ithaca, N.Y. where they often heard the nightly sounds of owls at their previous home near Buttermilk Falls. Fond of owls ever since, the name Two Hoots describes not only their business, but also the generosity they share in giving back to the community, “where they give a hoot.”

Cherie invites you to relax in a cozy, quiet atmosphere at Two Hoots Café, and savor a fresh cup of coffee or tea while enjoying breakfast or lunch. Two Hoots Flowers and Gifts specialize in flower arrangements for all occasions, and Cherie’s artistic touch shows in her new café setting. Walls inside the first floor level are painted with owl designs she created, and accents throughout the café are adorned with owl décor.

Some of the breakfast choices offered are the “Empty Nester” and the “Soaring 96,” egg, meat and cheese creations on fresh bagels, biscuits or croissants. A selection of breads and bakery items include cinnamon buns, muffins and bagels, and favorites like cookies, brownies and biscotti.

For lunch, bring your appetite for sandwiches made to order like the “Wise Owl Grilled Cheese,” “Howling Roast Beef” or “Ravenous Raptor,” just to name a few, with a variety of meats, vegetables, bread, dressings and cheese to choose from.

Soup and salad or soup and sandwich specials are also on the menu, with many homemade soup du jour selections ready to warm you up like cheddar broccoli, pumpkin, pepperoni, butternut squash, or creamy tomato basil, among others.

All produce, bakery items, meats and cheeses come from local sources, including Side Hill Acres Goat Farm and Austin Blinn’s Pig Sales. Two Hoots “gives a hoot,” and gives back to the community by supporting local food pantries, churches, and other selected organizations.

Visitors will also find homemade gifts at Two Hoots like crafted soap made by Owego’s “Rampart’s Edge,” honey products by “Dancing Bees Honey Farm” of Cayuta, N.Y., crocheted items by Candor’s “Yarn It Up!”,  local crafts by SIL’s Shoppe, and other gift items.

At Two Hoots Café, guests can dine in or take out and call-in orders are welcomed at (607) 236-0007. There is also room for small groups; call Cherie to discuss your group needs.
