On Oct. 18, a “No Kings” rally, hosted by Indivisible Tioga NY and the Tioga County Democratic Committee, was held at Courthouse Square in Owego to “protest activities by the current administration that are illegal and unconstitutional.”
Kevin Millar, one of the organizers, stated of the rally, “America is the land of the free and the home of the brave, but if we want to be free, we’ve got to be brave.”

Speakers who were scheduled at the rally included Ethan Gormley, Regional Organizer at Citizens Action; Jo Ellen (Jody) Rose, candidate for Tioga County Legislative District 2; Wendy Wall, distinguished history professor at Binghamton University; and Scott Parrott, professor of public health at Rutgers University. Pastor Bruce Gillette, Owego Presbyterian Union Church, was scheduled to speak but was unable to attend.
The “No Kings” rallies are a series of large, nationwide protests against President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies. The most recent occurring on Oct. 18, with organizers claiming millions of people participated in demonstrations across all 50 states.
Millar noted earlier that there are over 2,100 “No Kings” rally sites across America, with Tioga County being one of them. You can visit NoKings.org for more information.
