‘Take My Hand Mental Health Fun Walk’ moves to a larger venue

The inaugural “Take My Hand Mental Health Walk,” organized by the Julia Zepkowski Memorial Foundation, will now take place on May 17, from 1-3 p.m., at Hickories Park in Owego. Originally scheduled for Marvin Park, the event relocated to Hickories Park to better support anticipated participation and provide expanded space and parking. All pavilions on the river side of the park have been reserved, and the walk will follow the main walking circuit.

The Take My Hand Walk marks the first annual mental health and well-being event of its kind in Tioga County. Designed as a free, family-friendly experience, the event will feature a variety of activities, prizes, and opportunities to connect with representatives from local organizations offering mental health resources and support.

The Julia Zepkowski Memorial Foundation’s mission is to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout Tioga and Broome Counties. Organizers hope this event will foster open conversations and provide valuable support networks, in addition to bringing the community together.

“This level of community interest and involvement is incredibly encouraging,” organizers shared. “It shows how deeply people care about mental health and supporting one another.”

The Foundation plans to make the Take My Hand Walk an annual tradition, continuing to grow awareness and strengthen community connections year-round.
