Athens Senior Citizens celebrated Mother’s Day on May 10 at the Airport Senior Community Center. Twenty members attended and one guest, Karen Rieffee from Sierra Vista, Arizona came with Jerry and Sandy Keener. Mothers received a carnation to celebrate the day.

Ted Benjamin gave the invocation before the dish to pass meal. May Birthdays include Roselyn Jarvis (3), Don Scudder (23), and Frank Malone (30). May Anniversaries include Don and Anita and Bob Whipple (3) for 60 years, and Burt and Donna Cole (17).

Raffle winners were Mary Shangraw, Anita Whipple, Patty Benjamin, Sherry Foster and Jerry Keener. Sherry Spencer played her flute and the group sang along at the oldies she played. She handed out the words to When Irish Eyes are Smiling for the group to sing. Other favorites included Strike Up the Band, Penna. Polka, In your Easter Bonquet, Tennessee Waltz, You are My Sunshine, and Be Thou My Vision.

Upcoming events include Senior Scam Seminars on Friday, June 9, from 1-2 p.m. at the Sons and Daughters of Italy Hall, at 10 a.m. at 301 Desmond St. in Sayre, or at 2 p.m. at the Wyalusing Fire Hall, 24 2nd St. in Wyalusing. Tina Pickett’s Bradford County Senior Expo will take place on Friday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lynch Bustin Elementary School in Athens.

The Owego Strawberry Festival is taking place on June 16 and 17.

The June luncheon will be held on June 14 to celebrate Father’s Day. They will meet at noon for picnic at Sayre American Legion Post 0283, located on Cayuta Street in Milltown, and in the outside pavilion. In the event of inclement weather they will move the luncheon to the Airport Senior Community Center. Bring a dish to pass and your own table service and beverages. They will be celebrating Bill Wall’s 100th birthday (June 5) at the June luncheon.
