Dean Creek Watershed Public Meeting set for January 18

The Dean Creek Watershed Sponsors (Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation District, Tioga County Legislature, and the Town of Spencer) are working with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to develop a dam rehabilitation plan for the Pelto and Pylkas Dams. The two dams are located on Dean Creek in Tioga County.

The purpose of this study is to determine the best alternatives for rehabilitation of these flood control structures so they will meet current NRCS and New York safety and design standards. On Jan. 18 at 7 p.m., they will be holding a public meeting to review these alternatives.

This public meeting will be held virtually using Microsoft Teams. The meeting link is https://bit.ly/3Doyrlj and the call-in information is (347) 966-8462 with an access code of 615633024#.

The purpose of the Public Meeting is to discuss the planning activities to date, findings, various alternatives evaluated, and the recommended alternatives to rehabilitate these flood- retarding structures. Planning officials will present information, discuss questions and concerns, and seed public input into the planning process.

All are invited to participate in this virtual Public Meeting. However, if you are unable to attend, feel free to provide your resource concerns, questions, comments, and other pertinent information related to this dam to Wendy Walsh, District Manager, Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation District, 183 Corporate Dr., Owego, N.Y. 13827.
