Tioga County at a Glance, for the week ending May 23, 2020

Each week, throughout the pandemic, we provide a summary of reports received throughout the week regarding COVID-19 in our county in an effort to keep our readership informed. You can also view the numbers daily on our website.

As of Thursday, May 21, positive COVID-19 cases in Tioga County were at 129 confirmed, 104 in mandatory quarantine, 63 have recovered, and there have been 21 fatalities.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the governor’s office would allow religious gatherings of no more than ten people statewide, and where strict social distancing measures are enforced. This was authorized to begin on Thursday, allowing drive-in and parking lot religious services as well. Also authorized are Memorial Day ceremonies of ten people or less, statewide.

On May 18, Legislative Chairwoman, Martha Sauerbrey, reported a new tool is now available to help companies determine whether or not a business is eligible to re-open; and the public health and safety standards with which a business must comply.

This tool uses information about the company, County and NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) code. To access it, visit www.businessexpress.ny.gov/app/nyforward.

Last Saturday, the governor’s office announced that horse tracks, to include Tioga Downs, and Watkins Glen International are able to open without fans on June 1. We will have more coverage on these activities once more information becomes available.
