The Valley Romeo’s recently celebrated the birthday of twin sisters born a few minutes apart at Robert Packer Hospital 36 years ago. For 14 years, Becky Young has owned, cooked, and served customers at Becky’s Diner on Broad Street in Waverly. Her sister, Kristi Burroughs, assists in the seven-day a week breakfast and dinner business.

Because they allow the Romeo‘s to meet, eat and chat weekday mornings, the Romeo’s felt it appropriate to annually honor them on their birthday with a party.

The gathering included a cake baked by Dessert First Bakery, and of course the birthday card reading.

The Romeo table came to life when Becky answered an Owego members question, “Did you ever play boys football for Waverly High School?”

Becky responded with, “Yep. Played offensive wide receiver and defensive back from 1997 to 2001 for the current Wolverine Coach, Jason Miller. According to Becky, she was the first female student-athlete in New York State to play scholastic boys football.

Some amazing stories are shared over coffee, and you can learn a lot from these fun loving Romeo’s from the Valley.
