Training for disasters to be offered in Owego

The Tioga County Office of Emergency Services has arranged for the New York State Homeland Security and Emergency Services Emergency Management Office to present a 12-hour training course. The local volunteer and donation management course will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, Oct. 18, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Tioga County Public Safety Building, located at 103 Corporate Dr. in Owego.

The course is designed to train members of local volunteer organizations and faith based organizations that assist the community in times of disasters on management processes and procedures for working with local, state and FEMA agencies and volunteers. The course will also prepare local volunteer organizations to deal with the influx of well-intentioned volunteers from outside the area and with donated items.

Persons interested in attending the class can call the Tioga County Office of Emergency Services at (607) 687-2023 and advise them that you will be attending. Registration can be handled on-site at the class.
