Owego’s First Friday will take place on Friday, Oct. 4 in the Historic Village of Owego, and will be kicking off the new season by celebrating all the things we love about Fall. Events begin early at 5:30 p.m. so you will have plenty of daylight to take part in the evening’s fun.

It’s not October without Pumpkins. Tim Jackson will be demonstrating his expert carving skills on the corner of Lake and Front Street in front of M&T Bank. Stop by for a chance to win one of Tim’s carved pumpkins. If you don’t have time to visit the pumpkin patch, the Historic Owego Marketplace (HOM) and its members will be providing free pumpkins, as long as they last, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This month HOM is pleased to showcase the Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation District. Their mission is to assist individual landowners, groups and units of government with any natural resource concern that is brought before it. This may take the form of technical advice, technical assistance, or finding a solution through another entity. Stop by their table at the corner of Lake and Front Street to learn more about this valuable organization.

Participants will also enjoy live music as they stroll downtown. Nothing says Fall Harvest like traditional Americana music on the banjo, fiddle and mandolin. Regional musicians Brian Vollmer, Kurt Osgood, and Jeff Bronfeld will be found filling the streets with music at various locations along Lake and Front Street!

October also brings with it Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Join A New Hope Center outside at 177 Front St. (Carol’s Coffee and Art Bar) where survivors’ artwork will be on display. There will be opportunities to paint your own craft, enjoy a purple treat, and to get information about domestic violence. A New Hope Center provides valuable resources to our community and HOM is happy to support them in raising awareness throughout the month.

Owego First Friday is made possible thanks to its sponsors. This month Creative Joy is the featured sponsor. You can find Creative Joy at 173 Front St. Dedicated to nurturing your creative side, Creative Joy is the perfect place to get together, have fun and make some amazing projects. Join them during First Friday for a $5 Make and Take, Mixed Media Project using a variety of papers, stamps and watercolor products.

While Owego First Friday will carry on throughout the winter, this marks the end of outdoor events until Spring. First Friday will continue to highlight the many participating locations even when it is cold outside, so check back each month at Owego.org and on Facebook at Historic Owego Marketplace to learn more.
