The Owego Pennysaver learned last week that the annual Traci’s Hope BBQ has been cancelled. On the Traci’s Hope Facebook Page, the organizers wrote, “We are disappointed to announce that the Traci’s Hope annual BBQ at the Apalachin Field Day Grounds on [Oct. 5] is going to be cancelled this year. Due to several unforeseen circumstances, we were not going to be able to provide an event that our supporters have come to know. We thank you all for your continued support. Thank you for helping us to help others.”

The motorcycle ride in conjunction with the annual event will continue, however. The 90-mile ride will gather at Ransom Steele Tavern in Apalachin on Oct. 5. Registration for the ride begins at 9:30 a.m., with kickstands up at 11:30 a.m.

For more information on the ride, call (607) 744-7378 or (607) 342-0793.

In light of the cancellation, Traci’s Hope is continuing their mission, and various groups and organizations are holding other fundraisers. To stay informed and follow the activities that benefit Traci’s Hope, be sure to Follow Traci’s Hope on Facebook.

Traci Gibson was diagnosed with Stage 3b breast cancer at the age of 31 and lived with the disease for seven years; she passed away on Oct. 3, 2006. Traci’s Hope was her inspiration, a fund set up to help breast cancer patients lessen the burden of overwhelming expenses.

That fund continues to help families and individuals throughout the region that are battling breast cancer.
