Owego Little League (OLL) is 68 years old and is in its 52nd season at Hyde Park. For the first time in 51 years there is a new and higher and centrally located flagpole at Hyde Park for OLL’s five-diamond complex.

Jeff VanWagenen and Suez Water gifted the new flagpole to OLL. Installation was done by June 6.

The mid-complex location is between Nick Raftis Memorial Field and Jim Beauter Field.

The American flag and POW/MIA flag can be seen by players on all teams when the National Anthem is played before the start of the 6 p.m. weeknight games or first games on Saturday morning.

The “old flag pole” stays between George and Maggie Cheresnowsky and Nick Raftis Memorial Fields and the entrance to the park from the “Owego Creek bank road.” It’ll fly Little League flags.

Owego Lodge 1039 Elks donated the first flagpole and dedicated it on July 4, 1968. The plaque at the base of the pole reads “As a tribute to encourage patriotism in the youth of this community we dedicate this flag pole.” Youth Chairman George S. Cheresnowsky, Exalted Ruler Richard W. Beck and Secretary J. Edmund Morton.

OLL Girls Softball Director, Emily Crawford, loves the new flagpole location and welcomed it for her June 13-17 Owego Softball All Star Tournament with 20 teams, double the number from last year.

The new flagpole awaits the annual Owego Tournament for 10U/12U from July 1-14 and the New York State Little League Tournament for eight to ten year olds on July 20-27.
