Beth and Mark Johnson, owners of Owego’s Historic Parkview Hotel and Irish Pub, located at 145 Front St. in Owego, N.Y, held a ribbon cutting for the grand opening of their hotel on April 26.  An Open House was held throughout the weekend.

Because of the overwhelming response and interest, the Johnson’s have planned a second Open House for May 4 and 5. Visitors will be able to tour the 1900’s-themed hotel during regular business hours.

At the ribbon cutting, the Johnson’s thanked the community, Tioga County Economic Development, Team Tioga, the Parkview staff and several trades’ professionals, among others, and also commented that a majority of the materials used for the renovations were from local businesses.

Mark Johnson commented, “We realize what a huge team it took to make this happen,” adding, “Beth and I are overwhelmed and very lucky to live in such a great community and thank everyone who cares so much about this beautiful, historic site.”

Beth Johnson added, “I want to thank my parents, too.  My father taught me how to work hard and never give up.”

Following several years of planning, of which the last two years were devoted to a majority of the hotel renovations, a previous comment by the Johnson’s solidifies their efforts, “It has been a dream come true to renovate this great landmark property.”

Known to many as simply the Parkview, the property is the oldest continually operated business in the village since 1867.

Bringing the hotel back to life was always in the hearts of the Johnson’s since purchasing the Parkview from the previous owners in 2011. The establishment, and where a 1972 fire closed the hotel side of the business, had seen six ownership changes and five different building additions in its 150-year history. The Johnson’s celebrated the property’s 150th anniversary in 2017.

Listed on the New York State Haunted History Trail, the Parkview has also garnered notoriety from its mysterious stories of spirits that reside there, and confirmed by paranormal investigators.
