Join the Arts Council during Owego’s First Friday, taking place May 3 from 5 to 8 p.m., to say farewell and thank you to Robert “Bob” Merwin, who has been a member of The Walk-Up Gallery & Studio Space for the past year.

During that time they have had the privilege of getting to know Bob through his participation in The Walk-Up Gallery and various events, including En Plein Air and the Tioga Arts & Agriculture Trail.

In a press release, Christine Di Stefano, arts council director, stated, “Not only have we seen examples from his incredible body of work as an artist, but we also continue to discover the exemplary spirit that drives his work. We regularly hear from community members about Bob. Some laud his tremendous talent; others speak to his ability as a mentor and teacher – with an innate ability to inspire as well as nurture budding artists. Our respect and admiration for him, as an artist and as a person, grows with each encounter. Bob has enriched the fabric of the Tioga Arts Council and the broader arts community.”

Bob’s tenure at The Walk-Up Gallery & Studio Space will come to an end in May. In June, they will welcome his friend and colleague, Suzanne M. Lachman, to The Walk-Up Gallery & Studio Space – where she will join artists Carolyn Campbell and Alice Mischke.

If you cannot make it to Owego First Friday on May 3, you can visit Bob at The Walk-Up Gallery & Studio Space during the Tioga Arts & Agriculture Trail (TAAT) on May 11 and 12.

The Arts Council will also be welcoming “Sprouts of Imagination” – works by Newark Valley and Owego art students for an exhibition. There will be a reception during First Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The work will remain on display through May 25, and can be viewed Thursday through Saturday at the Arts Council, from noon to 4 p.m., or by appointment.
