Updated: Owego student dies after being struck by train

The Owego Police reported on Wednesday that an Owego Free Academy student died after being struck by a train in the South Depot Street area of Owego. The incident was initially reported at 2:55 p.m.

On Thursday, the police identified the 17-year-old male as Kyle Davis.

According to police, Davis was heading eastbound on the south side railway and was struck by an eastbound Norfolk Southern Train.  

Kyle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The incident is under investigation at this time. 

Following the fatal incident, Owego Apalachin Central School District superintendent Corey Green issued a statement, and extended heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the family and friends. Green also deployed a Crisis Intervention Team of trained professionals to help students, parents, and school personnel.

“We will have social workers, psychologists, and school counselors available for any students or staff who may need assistance,” he added. 

The investigation is ongoing.
