A benefit is being planned for May 4 for Darin Welch; long time community member who is known by many for his Outreach work at the Open Door Mission. Darin was diagnosed with Stage 5 kidney failure resulting from high blood pressure and diabetes. Darin also has a significant loss of eyesight due to his diabetes.
He is currently receiving dialysis three times per week and will soon be going for yet another surgery while on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. The community is looking for help in raising funds for Darin’s medical expenses, transportation, and other needs.
The May 4 benefit will take place at the Elks Lodge, located at 223 Front St. in Owego at 1 p.m. There will be a spaghetti dinner, bake sale, and Chinese auction. The cost of the dinner is a $10 suggested donation.
If you cannot attend, please consider making a donation in the form of baked goods, Chinese auction items, or even cash. Donations need to be received by May 1.
