On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Tioga County practiced a Public Health Asset Distribution (PHAD). This drill was conducted in collaboration with Tioga County Department of Public Health, Sheriff’s Office, Information Technology, Emergency Management Services and Public Works, along with staff at the PHAD location; which due to confidentiality reasons cannot be identified.

Public Health Asset Distribution is done in the event of a severe public health emergency where additional supplies are needed. These assets include medicines, vaccinations, and other medical supplies needed for that emergency. New York State can deliver these assets to a secure location in the county within 12-hours and from there Tioga County must distribute them to Point of Dispensing (POD) locations. POD locations are set up in various locations in the county to dispense the necessary medicine or vaccines needed to address the Public Health Emergency.

At the completion of this drill, participants met to discuss ways to improve the flow at the PHAD site to ensure that assets are inventoried thoroughly and efficiently and delivered in minimal time to POD locations.

“Preparation and collaboration with county departments and community partners helped make this drill run smoothly,” said Heather Vroman, PHAD site warehouse manager, adding, “We will continue to run drills to make sure we can pull together as a county to protect the public in the event of a public health emergency occurring. We appreciate all of our partners that participated today.”
