Challenger Little League signups taking place

It’s time to sign up for the 2019 Southern Tier Challenger Little League season. The Challenger League is a baseball league designed for boys and girls within the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania, ages five to 21, who have a physical, emotional, or mental disability. Boys and girls of any skill level can join, even if they have never played before.

For over 25 years, the program has provided area youth with an opportunity to enjoy the full benefits of little league participation at a level structured to their abilities. More importantly, the program allows them to be part of a team and develop their social skills and build self-esteem.

Thanks to the dedication and commitment of their sponsors, managers, parents and other volunteers, they are proud to field ten teams this year – allowing players the opportunity to participate in a league which not only allows them the development of their baseball skills, but many other growth opportunities as teammates and individuals.

Each team plays (practice time included) once or twice a week. The field is located next to the Vestal Library and dedicated to the needs of children with disabilities. Season runs April thru July, with medals awarded to each player.

Do you know someone who would benefit from playing in the Challenger League? Players can sign up at www.southerntierchallenger.com or by calling (607) 759-0610.

Registration for the 2019 season is free this year thanks to the Vestal Elks Lodge #2508.
