Wow, here it is on a Sunday afternoon, I’m sitting here reminiscing backwards I guess from when I was a kid, but now I’m 82 years old. I wonder whatever happened to the old games we played when we were little like balloons, bingo, blind man’s bluff, bob for the apples, cake walk, corn hole, duck goose, hide and seek, hot and cold, hot potato, limbo, eye spy, mother may I, musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey, ring toss, sack race, Simon says, tug of war and jacks and croquet? All these were really good old days. I guess TV and computers took the kids away from them. Our kids today wouldn’t even know what those games mean. I just thought maybe somebody out there would remember them too. If you do remember them, call the Pennysaver and put them in there. I’d like to read it.

What ever happened to the round and square dances that we used to have at the Out Post in Owego out on Day Hollow Road in Owego? None of those bands are in business anymore and you don’t hear of anybody square dancing like we were taught when we were little. When I was 14 years old I was on the dance floor and my sister and husband took me. I enjoyed dancing and learned square dancing in gym class in high school. There’s nothing like that today. People don’t realize if they’re not older like I am, all the good times we used to have. My first husband and I went to round and square dances every Friday and Saturday night after working all day long and that was our enjoyment, but there is no more of that stuff anymore.

This is to someone who wanted to know why Mick Dwyer wasn’t on Fox 40 anymore. I called the station and all they’ll tell you is he’s on leave. However it doesn’t look like he’s coming back.

I have two lamps that need rewiring and new 3-way switches. If you know anyone that can do this, please leave your phone number in the Pennysaver.

I wonder what it would take to get the Supervisor of the Town of Owego to get them to finish the end of the driveways at Valley Community Park. They were damaged two years ago by snowplows. The corporation has written to the Town of Owego, the personnel here at the park have written to the Town of Owego, and phone calls have been made. They came last month and did some of the driveways but left a lot of them with big holes at the end of the road. There was a little water in the holes so they didn’t bother with them. They could have been swept out and cleaned, plus it was dry in the summer and they were never touched. I wonder what can be done.

I have to tell you something I know from experience. If you think there are drug connections, drug deals, or drug interactions going on in your neighborhood you need to call the police and say so, because if you don’t it doesn’t get better, it gets worse. The police are there to protect you and they will if you let them know what’s going on. This is important. I know from experience.

This is a response to the individual talking about the snowplow drivers that work all day long from sun up to sun down, and plow the same roads repeatedly all day long! Maybe that’s the problem. They keep plowing the same roads and ignore all the rest. Another question I have for the Town of Owego Highway Superintendent as well as the Tioga County Superintendent and the State DOT that takes care of this area. What do they do so different in Western New York? They have the same climate, the same kind of weather. But you know what, they don’t have a pothole to be found on their roads. I hate to tell all you highway superintendents; their dirt roads make your best-paved roads look bad!

Owego Village Board, I’d just like to let you know that I lost the sale of my historic house in downtown Owego because of the proposed extreme historic law that’s coming out soon. This is a disappointment. I’ve been trying for five years to sell the house but the prospective buyers saw the proposed law and they went to Vestal.

I just wanted to thank the Owego boys basketball team for the great entertainment they provided me this week. It started off with a great night of Fan Jam on Wednesday, lots of people out for that. But Friday night and Saturday night with the DWI tournament in Binghamton was spectacular! The boys were spot on; you guys were just great; Koby coming off with most valuable player that took us to the win of the tournament. Coach Chris Evans celebrated his 100th win with OFA Varsity boys’ basketball and we’re looking forward to a great winter with you guys. Win or lose, you are great entertainment!

Is there someone out there who saw the movie “The Day After Tomorrow?” It was on Dec. 1 on the IFC channel and I would love a synopsis of it, especially concerning the source of snow for the glacial ice. Call Don Weber at 659-7137.

I would just like to say I am greatly disheartened by the ability of Candor fire department not to let taxpayers run for commissioners.

I’m looking for two grates for a barbeque pit. Please respond to this column. Also looking for someone who can build a 55-gallon barrel barbeque.

The Town of Spencer Board will raise taxes 3.9 percent to pay for flood damage. Then the Town Board waives the property taxes for an industrial solar field. The Spencer Board raises taxes 3.9 percent to pay for flood damage but does not bother to collect license fees for junkyards and mobile home parks. The Town of Spencer increases your taxes 3.9 percent for flood damage but does not go after grants that are awarded to other towns in the area. Not only will your taxes go up 3.9 percent, but you will also lose your rebate as we won’t be under 2 percent. If you say it cant get any worse, the Town board thinks it’s a contest and it gets worse. Keep voting them in fools!

This is to the deer processor who is dumping large quantities of deer carcasses at the Logan Hill Nature Preserve in Candor. What you are doing is both illegal and just plain wrong. People go there for a walk in the woods and to enjoy nature and hopefully see wildlife – NOT to find huge piles of black plastic bags with deer parts sticking out of them and smelling disgusting, not to mention the fact that all of those black plastic bags will end up in the creek. I have no problem with hunting. So if you are a responsible hunter, please ask your butcher how they dispose of the carcass. And if you process deer, please fold the cost of legal disposal into the fee you charge, but do NOT dump the carcasses on public land.

National Political Viewpoints

Follow the news. Turn on your TV to any station; the downfall of Trump is underway. The serial bankrupt five-time draft dodger conman is on the skids for all to see. MAGA – make America gag again.

Trump likes towers. Is there a tower available on Rikers Island for a Trump family reunion?

~

You veterans, do you recall taking an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic? And you Christians, have you forgotten the 10 Commandments altogether? How can any veteran support Trump when he’s a domestic enemy of the constitution! He’s constantly saying press is enemy of the people. Does anyone recall freedom of the press? And you Christians, how can you back Trump if he’s broken all Ten Commandments? There are Ten Commandments and I think he’s broken 11. But you guys keep supporting him. Think about that; read your bible, and remember the oath you took as veterans. Just think about it. He’s going down. The walls are closing in on the clown. He’s over with.

~

Talk about uninformed, low IQ buffoons; give me a big, big break! Just look at Maxine blabbermouth Waters, Nancy we must pass the bill to see what’s in it Pelosi, Adam there must be a conspiracy behind every Republican Schiff, and Barack I started this booming economy Obama. Talk about walking jokes!

~

I can’t believe what a fuss Democrats are putting up because the border patrol used a little teargas. They never said anything when Obama used teargas at the border 80 times in eight years! Nobody on the left criticized Clinton or Reno when CS gas was used in Waco on children inside a building and they were killed. The army told them before they did that not to use the gas because children’s lungs are not developed enough and it would kill them. Clinton and Reno went right ahead and pumped enough gas in that building to kill a herd of elephants! No outrage. Many children were killed from the gas. The FBI could have arrested David Koresh two days earlier when he was followed around at a gun show, but that was not their plan. They wanted to show the world they weren’t worried about killing people. They got their way.

Trump wasn’t invited to President Bush’s funeral. I wish he was invited, that’s too bad. I wouldn’t give Trump the time of day after the way he spoke of Jeb Bush and President Bush. John McCain and Barbara Bush did the right thing, not to allow Trump to their funerals after Trump’s unkind words since being elected. I knew his big mouth would eventually catch up to him some day and finally it did. Trump should hang his head in shame. Don’t you Republicans get what kind of a person Trump is? Even with his constantly lying, he’s pathetic!

~

Should the 235 elected and selected be rewarded by enjoying the fruits of their labor through participation in the “Total Test Experience?”

~

I’m filled with sadness over the funeral of former president George H.W. Bush. I remember that time. I remember that was the time when Republicans and Democrats could get along and disagree agreeably. We need to bring that civility back into today’s political climate.

~

This administration has acquired real stench. The president himself has lied over 6,000 times. Mr. Trump condemns someone for working with legal authorities and praises someone who will go to jail or pleads the 5th amendment. Says they’re strong. What’s up with all the lies? We should hold the administration accountable and ask ourselves, WHAT’S WITH ALL THE LIES!

~

Could someone give me a FACTUAL reason why there has been a two year inquiry into supposed illegalities on the part of President Trump, and none in the case of Hillary Clinton when there are many known and provable illegalities there. Hillary is known to have used her cell phone illegally on many occasions, yet no attempt is made at prosecution. The Hillary and Bill foundation has been used as a slush fund for the Clintons with 93 percent of the monies going to “administrative costs,” not funding the needs of unfortunates as is supposed to happen.

~

For those of you who have adopted the knee jerk reaction and insist on referring to President Trump as a liar, I have a challenge for you. I’ll list the lies told by “president” Obama and his cohort, Hillary Clinton, you list the lies told by President Trump. Let’s see who creates the longer list. I’ll start; remember this, “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan,” or “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” or, “Your healthcare premiums will go down an average of $2,500 a year.” (All said by “president Obama,” repeatedly.)
