One man has been arrested for DWI after a head-on crash in Newfield. Three people were injured and flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

On Nov. 25, 2018 at 7:06 p.m., New York State Police at Ithaca responded to a reported head-on collision on Shaffer Road in the town of Newfield. 

According to State Police, an investigation determined that 27-year-old Andrew P. Sampson of Horseheads, N.Y. was operating a Dodge Ram pick-up truck and crossed the double yellow line, struck a Ford Fusion head-on and came to rest on its side. 

Three people, a 31-year-old male of Newfield, 24-year-old female of Enfield and 62-year-old female of Newfield were in the Ford Fusion that was struck by Sampson. All three were injured and transported to Upstate Medical Center by helicopter and have serious injuries.

Sampson was arrested at approximately 8:21 p.m. and charged with the felony of Vehicular Assault in the first degree, the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated and the violation of Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. He was also issued several traffic tickets. 

Sampson was arraigned in the town of Newfield Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 property bond.  His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 29, 2018.
