Owego Home Tour and Tioga Tales

Owego Home Tour and Tioga Tales

Back by popular demand, the Tioga Arts Council (TAC) presents its Owego Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 8, from noon 4 p.m. Enjoy the downtown area during the holiday season, and visit the participating locations: Belva Lockwood Inn – 249 Front St., 9 Front St., 240 Main St., 560 Fifth Ave., and 536 Fifth Ave.

The Home Tour is designed to highlight the extraordinary architecture in our historic town and to exhibit the creative ways in which historic buildings are being used by contemporary families and businesses.

Tickets are $25, and $20 for arts council members. They can be purchased online, or at the Tioga Arts Council either in advance or on the day of the Owego Home Tour. All ticketholders must check in at the arts council on Dec. 8, beginning at 11:30 a.m. to get their bracelet and booklet for the tour. Ticket sales are non-refundable and all proceeds benefit Tioga Arts Council.

There will also be a free, post-tour event – Tioga Tales, The Genuine After the Home Tour Party. The fun continues after guests’ tour the homes that same day. It’s a live performance in the format similar to Prairie Home Companion, and it’s called Tioga Tales.

All are invited to the Tioga Trails Café at the corner of Lake and Main Streets, at at 5 p.m. on Dec. 8 and at no additional charge to enjoy an hour of irreverent merriment as local performers present a bit of fractured history, music, a reading from the Old Coot, and Tom McEnteer reading Santa Claus on a Lark. Enjoy rhymes from the Unnamed Poet, all brought to you by Swamp Root Herbal Remedies, the Owego Cruciform Casket Company, and the Hiawatha Wigwam Clam Bake. Hang Ten with Susquehanna Surfing classic songs such as The Little Old Mobster from Apalachin and Help Me Belva (Lockwood).

April and George Swaney have generously provided the Tioga Trails venue for this performance. The show will go down much better with several of their excellent hot or cold beverages and marvelous cuisine.
