School incident on Friday under investigation

On Saturday, the Owego Police Department (OPD) reported that on Nov. 2, at approximately 11:35 a.m., the School Resource Officer (SRO) of the Owego Free Academy was investigating an issue in the lobby of the high school.

According to a release from OPD Chief Joseph Kennedy, Jr., it was noted that while speaking to one of the individuals involved, a 16-year-old male, they became disruptive and aggressive.

The SRO attempted to escort him out of the area when a struggle ensued, according to the release.

The individual was removed from the school, and according to the police the incident is under investigation.

On Sunday, the Superintendent of Owego-Apalachin Schools, Corey Green, issued a statement regarding the incident on Friday, stating, “On Friday, Nov. 2, an incident occurred in the lobby during a lunch period at Owego Free Academy. The School Resource Officer intervened in an altercation between high school students.”

Green also stated, “The incident ended with a student being arrested by the SRO. The SRO is an officer with the Owego Police Department that is contracted to work with the district. The school district will continue to cooperate with the Owego Police Department as this incident is a police matter.”

Green noted that the district is conducting its own investigation, and due to student privacy, is unable to provide further comment.

  1. Hope there were no weapons on the young man.
Please Principal Georgia, get this student Social Service help, and counseling. He needs an education. And parents are often ignorant of how to solve teen problems. Schools can share this responsibility.

  2. so what was it all about?
