From the Desk of Owego Police Chief Joseph Kennedy

Happy Halloween from the Owego Police Department! We will be hosting ‘Trick or Treating’ at the Owego Police Station, located at 90 Temple St. in Owego, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. We will also be participating in a Halloween Candy Check at the Owego Fire Department Station 3, located at 8 Talcott St. in Owego, from 6 to 8 p.m. where officers and firemen will be checking candy; there will be cider, donuts, coffee and cocoa for all to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you.

In preparation for next week, please consider the following safety recommendations to ensure we keep this a safe and fun holiday for our children and community.

Plan to trick or treat in groups instead of alone; use reflective tape on costumes and/or trick or treat bags to increase visibility; carry a flashlight and/or glow sticks while trick or treating to help you see others and for drivers to see you; remind your children to: walk from house to house not run, look before crossing a street, use crosswalks; avoid dark houses and never enter a home/car; motorists: please take extra caution and allow extra time for travel; please check candy before consuming; we encourage you to report suspicious activity to the police department quickly; and most importantly, enjoy with caution.

Calls for service from Oct. 8 through Oct. 21 included two felony arrests, nine misdemeanors, 45 traffic tickets, 11 warning tickets, five motor vehicle collisions, five parking tickets and 116 total calls.
