Opinion: Cuomo is out of touch with reality

Dear Editor,

You just can’t make this up. Governor Cuomo is now blaming the migration out of New York on climate conditions. In a recent article it states, “He says many of the New Yorkers leaving the state now are doing so for personal reasons or decisions that he called climate based.”

In the same article it states, “A study last year found that New York led the nation in net migration to other states.”

One of New York’s strongest attributes is we are blessed with four seasons, and compared with much of the country – they are relatively mild. While we have occasional snowstorms and flooding, we don’t generally experience the frigid cold of the North, the flooding of the South and coastlines, the tornadoes of the inner states, or the mudslides and wildfires of the West. I think the majority of New Yorkers enjoy and appreciate our year round seasons.

The Fact of the matter is, according to Kiplinger, New York is the third Highest Taxed State in the Country and the #1 Most Expensive state to retire in. This is the reason why we are losing our population and tax base to other states. According to the 2016 census, we lost close to 1 million of our population.

Until the democratic socialist New York government admits to their failed policies, no amount of excuses, “feel good” grants during election year, questionable tax incentive programs that often have not succeeded, are going to reverse our decline.

A problem cannot be solved without a true understanding of the problem itself, which is blatantly obvious to any reasonable person. But this latest excuse by Cuomo exemplifies how out of touch with reality he is.
