On Sept. 6, dozens of guests arrived at Bostwick Auctions, located at 1121 Route 96 in Candor, for a celebration of their most recent expansion – the Bostwick Auction Mall.
Bostwick Auctions broke ground for the new 76-foot x 100-foot addition, which includes a 100-foot porch, on April 5, 2018. Once construction was complete, the entire revamped building was transformed into one large antique mall.
Now open, regular auctions continue, but have been relocated inside the auction barn on the back part of the property.
In addition to the new Auction Mall, outdoor flea markets are being held every Saturday during warm weather months.
The expansion also allowed a remodel and extra space for Kim’s Diner, a popular eatery known for its home cooked meals and baked goods.
As for the expansion and the new Auction Mall, the owner, Laurie Bostwick, has fulfilled another dream.
“It’s something we’ve been dreaming about for years,” said Bostwick in an earlier interview about the expansion.
On Thursday, and with the Chamber of Commerce and a handful of guests, a ribbon was cut to celebrate their hard work and the opening of the Auction Mall.
One guest that arrived, Rick Kuklish, didn’t know the ribbon cutting was taking place, and had stopped by with a photo of John Sheehy, a coin collector that has a booth, Catatonk Collectibles, within the Auction Mall. This is where he displayed his coins.
It was learned from Kuklish that Sheehy passed away on Sept. 5, just a day prior to the celebration, and at the age of 75. As a pillar to the Bostwick operation, his loss will be felt among the workers and those who knew him.
And Kuklish spoke fondly of Sheehy, stating that he was like a father to him. He also noted that Sheehy was instrumental in starting an Open Bible Fellowship, which is held on-site each Thursday evening with a meal starting at 6 p.m. and Bible study at 6:45 p.m.
Estey, Monroe and Fahey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Sheehy, according to Kuklish, and an obituary was not available as of the time of this reporting.
