Guests will be kicking up their heels during the sixth annual Bluegrass Festival taking place at the North Barton Grange on Sept. 7 and 8. Located at 1363 Ellis Creek Rd. in Waverly, the festival runs from 1 to 10 p.m. on Friday, and then from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The event takes great pride in bringing the best in traditional bluegrass, and this year is no exception.

Performing on Friday is Mountain Highway, Horse Purse, Melanie and the Boys, Bear Tracks, and Bug Tussle. 

On Saturday, Mountain Highway, Slewfoot Bluegrass, Louie Setzer & the Appalachin Mountain Boys, The Feinberg Brothers, Mathews Family Tradition, and Zink and Company will perform throughout the day.

Dean Goble is providing sound. Shade tents will be provided, bring your own chairs. This event will take place rain or shine. The concession stand will be open Friday and Saturday, with breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning, and a chicken and pork barbecue on Saturday only. 

Throughout the event there will be bake sales, a Chinese Auction, and vendors.

Tickets for the event are $25 for the weekend, if purchased by Aug. 27. Free rough camping is included with a weekend ticket. To attend Saturday only, tickets are $15 if purchased by Aug. 27.

For tickets purchased on or after Aug. 28 or at the gate, the cost is $30 for the weekend, or $20 for Saturday only. 

For Friday only, tickets are $12.50 and are only available at the gate. 

Children 16 and under are free with a paying adult. 

You can purchase advance tickets at Tom’s Hardware, located at 615 Cayuta Ave. in Waverly, or TJ’s Market, located at 1729 Route 17C in Barton, N.Y.

mail an order form noting the date or dates, as well as the number of tickets; make the check payable to North Barton Grange, c/o Beverly Randall, 20 Alder Swamp Rd., Barton, N.Y. 13734. Be sure to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. 

The camping gate opens on Thursday at 1 p.m. At the homeowner’s request, no campfires are allowed in the camping area. There will be campfires in the festival area for everyone to enjoy. There is no dump station on the premises.

If traveling on Interstate 86, take exit 61. Take a left off the exit. Go straight at the
stop sign, and turn right onto Route 17C. Ellis Creek is off Route 17C.
If traveling on Route 220. Go to the end of Route 220 in Waverly; take a right at the stop sign. This will turn into Route 17C. Ellis Creek is off Route 17C.
