Opinion: Potential improvements needed for public water system in Candor

Dear Editor,

Earlier this year the Village of Candor contracted with Hunt Engineers and completed a comprehensive evaluation of our village public water system. They returned a developed asset management plan identifying quantified potential improvements, current shortcomings, and provided recommendations and various alternatives to address the necessary improvements.

The Village Board of Trustees elected to go forward to address the identified inadequacies and to rectify existing pressure flows and are doing so by applying for the New York State Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA) grant for help in funding recommended improvements to our water infrastructure.

Though the water district exists for the village, many residents who benefit from a viable and healthy water system, be it fire hydrants to safe guard public housing, schools, services and businesses, there are parts which supply water service outside the village as is the Town Hall and surrounding area.

Your help is needed to assist the Village in applying for the grant. WIIA has requested that letters of community support be included in the grant application.

If you need help in composition, the Candor Village website, www.candorvillage.com, has a sample form letter that can be located under Correspondence, and then News.

If you are unable to access or print out the sample, contact the Village office at (607) 659-7966. Letters must reach the Village Hall by Aug. 30 to be included.

Please take a moment to consider your support.

Sincerely,

Florence Alpert

Candor, N.Y.
