Tammy Garafano’s discomfort with leaving her dogs in a kennel for any period of time, whether it be an overnight kennel or for the eight-hour work day, has lead her to create Pawty Pups Daycare and Boarding for any owner who feels the same way.

The business is run out of her home and is kennel-free. The thought of locking a dog in a kennel puts a bad taste in Garafano’s mouth.

She stated, “All they can do is lie down. Dogs aren’t meant to do that. They were meant for freedom.”

What makes her business different from other daycare and boarding centers is the attention that she gives to each of the animals she houses. In a big-scale boarding kennel, where there are many dogs to take care of, some of the only attention the animals get comes at feeding time. At Pawty Pups, the dogs are able to play freely in her large, fenced-in yard.

Garafano also makes time to play with each of the dogs, giving them the attention they deserve. She said that while the dog’s parents are on vacation, the dogs should be on vacation too. Everyone gets a chance to relax, she said.

The yard is sectioned off to give the dogs who may not play well with others, as well as senior dogs, their own space. Each section has its own pool and shade for hot days and is well equipped with toys and entertainment for the animals.

Last week, Pawty Pups hosted five dogs. Add the overnighter count onto Garafano’s personal dogs and there were ten dogs on the property playing.

While the high energy and play is nice, Garafano said that having ten excited dogs run up to you when a ball is in hand can be a little much, so she lets them play on their own too. The dogs have a way of keeping each other entertained with the all the toys.

The inside space is just as nice as the outside space. She created a playroom for the dogs with a home-like atmosphere. The walls are painted with pictures hanging, and they have their own furniture and everything that creates a relaxing atmosphere for inside lounging.

Pawty Pups is being expanded. In the near future there will be four sections and two playrooms for all of the dogs to congregate and relax. For now, Pawty Pups has two sections and one playroom, and are still accepting dogs for overnights or for a day.

The most rewarding part of running the business is knowing the dogs are in a safe and relaxing place. She wants to make it be as if the dogs are on vacation while their owners are on vacation.

Pawty Pups is open year-round for overnight boarding, or for working owners who want to give their dogs a place to stay during the day. Prices start at $25 per night, plus $10 per extra dog. Daycare prices start at $15.
