The community of Newark Valley continues its annual tradition of celebrating summer with Summerfest, scheduled for July 27 and 28 at multiple locations throughout the town and village. Formerly known as Newark Valley Days, the event will offer activities for all ages, along with live music and entertainment, superb food, and a not-to-miss parade.

Event organizers announced that Summerfest would be just as fun and memorable, if not bigger and better!

Newark Valley Days, a decades-long event previously organized by the Newark Valley Historical Society, was turned over earlier this year to the Newark Valley Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber renamed it “Summerfest,” and while taking note of numerous other summer events throughout Tioga County, opted to change the date to the last weekend in July.

Friday evening events on July 27 kick off at 4 p.m. with an Art Show at the Park Street Municipal Building, a Quilt Show featuring the Valley Quilters at the United Congregational Church on Main Street, and a wine tasting at Village Wine and Spirits.

Also on Friday evening, Donna & the Country Mystics will perform classic country tunes at the Newark Valley Depot starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be offered beginning at 6 p.m.

Events on Saturday, July 28, start at 9 a.m. at the Village Green and Trout Ponds Park. The Newark Valley Historical Society will be hosting free tours of the Bement-Billings Farmstead Museum from noon until 4 p.m.

The annual parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning and proceed along Main Street and other neighboring streets.

At the Village Green until 4 p.m., fest-goers can browse various vendors, crafters and artisans offering jewelry, clothing and boutique selections, cacti and rare succulents, hand-made wooden, knitted and embroidered items and children’s favorites, including a face painter. Also on hand will be maple products, cotton candy, sno cones and popcorn.

Live entertainment at the Village Green will feature Christian Abell and Ciara Bridges, the Kirby Band, DNT and Greg Neff.

Activities at Trout Ponds Park until 4 p.m. include a children’s play area with games and activities, more vendors, crafters and artisans, food and snack booths, cotton candy and sno cones. Raffle tickets will be sold for a number of gift baskets, and the Newark Valley Fire Department is sponsoring a “Fire Safety Trailer,” along with child ID’s via Operation Safe Child.

For foodies, a barbeque is planned behind Lambert’s Attic on Whig Street.

The much-anticipated Great Duck Race is set to sail at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, where ten monetary prizes will be offered. Duck enthusiasts can increase their chances of winning by adopting more ducks.

Live entertainment at Trout Ponds Park features the Triton Trio, Celebrations by DeRue, Adam Ate the Apple, Silk Street, Expressions, and VooDoo Highway.

The Newark Valley Summerfest concludes with a fireworks display at dark.
